Campus Volunteer Coordinators (CVCs)

Campus Volunteer Coordinators (CVCs) arrange and coordinate ongoing volunteer opportunities with specific community organizations for University of Portland students.  Apply to one of these ongoing opportunities today!

Current ongoing volunteer opportunities through CVCs are as follows:

Roosevelt High School (SUN Community School)

Students who volunteer with Roosevelt High School are able to tutor students in an after-school study hall environment, distribute food from their food pantry to families, or volunteer in their clothing closet.  Tutoring opportunities are Monday-Thursday from 3:30-5:30, and volunteers are able to go whatever day/time fits with their schedule.  For example, if you have limited availability, you could volunteer tutoring from 3:30-4:30 every Monday.  If you have more availability, you could tutor multiple days a week from 3:30-5:30.  Food Pantry distribution takes place every Friday from 1-3.  Organizing food donations takes place on Thursdays from 10-11.

L'Arche

L’Arche is a group of “People with and without intellectual disabilities sharing life, creating home, and building meaningful relationships together”. Students who volunteer with L’Arche are able to build these relationships, engage in this welcoming community, and have so much fun! Activities could include gardening, chatting, watching movies, coloring etc.  Hours are flexible and you can choose to volunteer every week or for occasional events (like the Halloween or Christmas Party!). 

Hours of availability to volunteer include Mondays-Fridays from 3-7pm or any time on weekends.

North Portland Elementary School SUN (James John and César Chávez)

Elementary SUN Volunteers build relationships with elementary school students through playing games, tutoring and doing activities together after school.  It is a safe, supportive environment for kids, and they love having UP students come hang out with them!  SUN Programs operate Mondays through Thursdays and volunteers are able to go whatever day/time fits with their schedule and do not have to stay for the entire time slot if they have conflicts. 

James John hours: Mondays through Thursdays 2:00-3:30/4:00.  

César Chávez hours: Mondays through Thursdays 2:15/30-4:45.
